Wake up!

Let me first start by saying that what follows in this blog is little more than an exercise in self-absorption, self-indulgence, and an ongoing examination of "self" and all the wonderful stories I've built about my life and circumstances.

More than anything, it's a celebration of the unfolding mysteries and wonders of this, my life.

This morning I resorted robotic-like to an old habit of turning off my alarm before it went off, with the half-asleep, post-pee-return-to-bed rationale "you can sleep in - you have no agenda today". Ahhhh, bed!

My alarm was set for a reasonable time : 8:30 am, which by most standards already constitutes sleeping in. Like I said, I rationalized my reasons to sleep in further: "I'm still on Ontario time....still experiencing jet lag from my trip to the motherland Latvia....I'm extra tired due to all the furniture I moved around to get my apartment ready for carpet installation....I'm generally physically and emotionally spent." Ya, good reasons.

But let's face it, my habit of wasting precious, productive morning hours speaks to my propensity towards procrastination and and I'd even go further to say that it's a facet of self-sabotage, something I am an absolute expert at. I'll go into it in a later post, but where I am in my life today (i.e. exactly where I am SUPPOSED to be) with huge questions about my career, relationships, community (to name a few) is a testament to "self-fulfilling prophecies" I have created that challenge my overall sense of security. And how exciting it is! It almost makes me giggle.

So, this morning at 8:24am, I received a test message from a complete stranger, urging me to "Wake up!".

WTF? A wee smile came over my face and a thought that the "universe" was not going to let me get away with sleeping in after all!

I texted back "Who is this?" to which received a reply "Loser who always wakes u up...or trys to...its chas". Tee hee. I typed another message "You got the wrong # Chas" and got one last message back "Do I?? Sorry...haha!".

HA HA indeed! Thank you universe! Thank you Chas! Thank you for my wake up call this morning!

At the risk of sounding like a flake (which um, I shamelessly confess I am, amongst many other things) and reading too much into things, I truly believe the universe, life works in mysterious ways, bringing us signs and events that, if we are paying attention, serve to remind us there is much more to our human experience that meets the eye or our other known senses.

End blogpost #1

PS, for those of you wondering who "Schuller" is, Pinky Schuller is my alter ego and nickname in certain circles. It's a name bestowed on me at the Railway Club about 10 years ago during one of several nights of heavy boozing and creative escaping.
